OFF-ICE the laboratory of fundacja36,6
for Co-ordination and Technologies of Creative Processes
The Art Health Center Society (SAOZ) has been consistently developing since 1999 its activity within following areas: social, arts and education. After a number of successful events, such as the young artists and East & West critics meetings cycle (the Hills project), the workshop for artists and young people, the participation in many exhibitions and the projects, developing the most interesting concepts. We now are starting a program, setting up the Off-ice (as a oranisation point of the fundacja36,6).
The idea and name of the Off-ice is related to the theoretical speculations of one the more interesting modernists, artists and theorists - the Polish design co-founder, organizer of contemporary artistic education in Poland - Andrzej Pawlowski (1925-1986). Pawlowski's predictions and statements, relating to the artist's changing role, the SAOZ and 36,6 corp. experiences and the direct confrontations and interaction with the social and economic realities are the basis of the long-term project, which is Off-ice.
As part of the Off-ice's activities, we will be carrying out SAOZ projects within different areas: social, arts end education. We will also develop an individual subjective artistic reflection, providing it consistently with criticism and confronting it with other's attitudes or contemporary cultural aspects, which question her qualities, principles or roles.
We are going to perform the works and the projects and do a cluster of promotions, but also with others willing to co-design them. We particularly invite arts school students, college pupils, young artists. Speaking about a promotion, we are thinking not only about a market (Poland being in a difficult state), contemporary art consumption, but also (and particularly) about the world of the critics and the curators, interested in and attempting a dialog with an artist and the realities, in which we are working. With the earliest works of Off-ice, we will formulate (I hope, this is going to be invigorating) the objections to the Polish theoretical world of the critic and the curator, concerning the generally passive, impersonal curatorship, a lack of critical propositions, a pose, using self-satisfaction, the ready thought-out schemes and borrowing from others' cultures (the most conveniently, because it is the most effective - from leisure activities and the media) and we will suggest an attempt to reflect on art. We want to analyze these things, provoking by the joint educative, workshop sessions, meetings or exhibition projects. In preparation, among others, 'the camel workshop - Road Performance ", the workshop program for young people and adults and the 'monumental' project: an opening of the international workshop center in Proszkow, near Opole.
Other reflections developed by Off-ice are the relations between the economy, art, design, and leisure activities, which we have researched over the last few months. We are interested in the different aspects of art production or activity completion, the arts, designs and leisure activities, authorities' limits, the formal, legal, philosophical and economic concepts behind these questions and 'the significant movements' which have been taking place recently. Our artistic experiences are pointing us to these ways of thinking and they are usually a point of exit to the reflections and to an area of question asking. It is expressed in the organizational and creative activities. The preparative projects that include, among others: CD publishing with a book finished in October 2002 "the new songs workshop" with Marcus Schmickler*, 'laptop_workshop', the website about copyright, the alternative propositions and the discussion forum around these problems.
We are more and more tending in ours projects and in informative or reflective dimensions of our work (for example web site) to the ideas 'open source/open content' putting higher - above individual expression and emotion - a meeting, an exchange of thinking and values, the introducing of and a review possibly of the many and the most adequate, expressive and effective answers. The earlier SAOZ propositions, and particularly, the Off-ice establishments grew from similar intentions.
Off-ice as part of its activity set up the SKS*- SAOZ Culture Fair. From the beginning of March 2003, each Friday in the evening, Off-ice will be open to guests and will present the current art works, documentation and will invite guests, giving them time and space on specific evening. In the home-fair-club atmosphere, we invite you to a meeting with poetry and poets, music, video film, performance, art and critical & theoretical reflection and also with our own 'sampled' kitchen.
Off-ice works using contemporary work methods and information processing. Our regular collaborators and the actual Off-ice co-creators live in Krakow (co-coordinator, a secretary, workshops, SKS), in Proszkow, near Opole (Off-ice lawyer, a workshop office center organization) and in London (the translations & public relation). Off-ice co-operates willingly with the people and the institutions interested in contemporary culture, art and its criticism.

A poster billing event in the city we will be carried out as part of the Stockholm Art Fair, giving an idea of the time span of the 'heroic' SAOZ activities. More than 1000 copies of the posters from different SAOZ projects - from the beginning of the society's existence to its last performances - will put be up on the advertising pillars and the boards in the center of Stockholm. The place's and time's dislocations and the play between the informative and esthetic dimensions of the poster (a multiplication of information /disinformation), and also the recycling of printed, already needless paper sheets, but also a play on the ideas and the activities, a specific, a little absurd retrospective - that shows the main motives of an activity.
The evening initiating Off-ice and SKS activity, performed in the exhibition space "Simon Says Aloha to Polish Art" - (date), linked with the video presentations, a lecture-performance and a choice from the author's kitchen will be the complement and the answer to the situation of 'closure' and summarizing.

*SAOZ (The Art Health Center Society) founded in 1999 by young artists, students, journalists, writers, musicians group for a performance of projects relating to the negotiation of a place for art in the contemporary everyday. SAOZ, except their own authors performances for example, The Eating Hollyday, most often co-coordinated by Roman Dziadkiewicz, carry out educative and social projects - the workshops, the meetings with the artists, questioning exhibitions. In the SAOZ constitution, there is a formal statement that "the society is the permanent performance". The people particularly present in the SAOZ actions from the beginning of its existence: Roman Dziadkiewicz (president), Tomasz Wadon, Malgorzata Markiewicz, Wojciech Kosma, Zorka Wollny, Joanna Motyka, Monika Wrobel.
*"Technolog of creative processes" that is the expression used by Andrzej Pawlowski in the text from 1975 (authorizing typewriter text) do define an artist in the future. Pawlowski proposes to replace the relations receiver- professional artist by a relation creator - technolog of the creative process; he wrote: .artists became the producers of artificial limbs for the imaginative actions of so-called recipients. I presume that such state of affairs satisfies neither of the groups (Andrzej Pawłowski Announcment 'Interventions', 1975 in 'Initiation', Departament of Idustrial Design Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, Cracow 1989, p. 10)
*The workshops with Marcus Schmickler , a German composer, linked with the Cologne electronic music scene, we have carried them out thanks to the co-operation with the Goethe Institute Krakow and the Art Bunker Gallery in Krakow. During the four workshop days the participants from all Poland (12 "musicians" - computers, percussion, violin, and chorus) worked on the composition, which was performed in the final evening in the Bunker Sztuki Gallery (a workshop presentation, a concert of Marcus Schmickler, DJ set, Odijka and an all night event with Krakow DJ and VJ on the main scene and a the chill-out in the SAOZ tent).
*SKS - perverse link to a short School Sport Club. In the Polish school in the years 70-80 have vigorously acted a formula of beyond school classes called SKS with a "physical education" teacher (interesting that is not just "sport's teacher"). These pseudo - trainings have been usually the extra "physical education classes or the normal football or basket match. And also the problem wasn't sport, but "an education by sport" according to the ideological patterns (by the entrance to a gymnasium stood the changed shoes).
